The Man Called Bono
Paul David Hewson is the real name of the rock icon called Bono. He is the main vocalist of the band called U2. Raised in Dublin, he attended Mount Temple Comprehensive School where he met both his wife and the future members of his band. Since then, he has been referred to as Bono by everyone. He is the chief songwriter of U2. His lyrics usually deal with socio-political themes. This has contributed to the band’s rebellious image. Of late, he has taken to writing about the band’s personal experiences.
Bono has successfully collaborated with many other artists. Currently, he also has a hotel venture with fellow band member, The Edge. Apart from his music, he is widely known for his social activism especially concerning Africa. He has organized and performed in various charity concerts for that continent. He is also known for holding very frank discussions with politicians and religious leaders.
Bono is the only person to have been nominated for an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, a Grammy, and a Nobel Peace Prize. In fact he has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize no less than three times. Bono has also been named Time Magazine’s “Person Of The Year.” It is obvious from all this that his appeal extends far beyond that of being a rock star. His dedication to worthy causes has gained him far more admirers than he would ever garner from merely singing on a stage. And perhaps, that is where his greatness truly lies.
