Success Delayed
Those who like the music of The Corrs probably were introduced to it via their sophomore album, Talk On Corners. It was released in 1997 and the album name references a line from one of the songs in it called “Queen Of Hollywood”. After its release, many of the songs from a typical live performance by the group would come from this album. It helped to cement The Corrs’ media presence worldwide.
Strangely, the first 3 singles off the album failed to make any headway in the UK market. “Only When I Sleep,” “I Never Loved You Anyway,” and “What Can I Do,” are some of the most familiar Corrs tunes but they were not hits right off the bat. The turning point for the album came when they did a remake of Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams.” They had begun singing it in their live shows and decided to release the track as a single. They performed with Mick Fleetwood at the Royal Albert Hall and this raised the band’s profile considerably. The album was then reissued with the track and it began taking off.
Supervised by David Foster, they began work on this album in California. The members of the band have talked about how difficult this album was to produce. There were numerous debates with the record company as this style of pop music did not seem to fit the trends at that time. In the end, they stuck to their guns and produced a very fine piece of pop musicianship.
