One Tree Hill

The Joshua Tree is was the fifth album released by the band U2. It came out in 1987 on

Island Records. Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois worked on this album which is considered

as one of the greatest albums of all time. In 1988 it won a Grammy for Album Of The Year.

It began as U2’s’ attempt to find its tradition. The band explored early American music and blended that with their own Irish sensibility. They also gained inspiration for the album when they headlined Amnesty International’s A Conspiracy Of Hope Tour. Just as the musicality of the album is a dichotomy, so is the theme. It juxtaposes anger at U.S. foreign policy with the band’s fascination of U.S. culture.

This album won U2 its first two Grammy Awards. It has sold over 30 million copies all over the world and is still the band’s best-selling album. Included in the album are the rock anthems, “ With Or Without You” and “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For.” “Where The Streets Have No Name” also became a smash hit for the band. It is highly regarded by fans and is considered the work that best represents the band. With its soaring songs and distinctive sound The Joshua Tree entered the annals of musical legend when it was released. It is an album truly inspiring in its depth and scope. But perhaps the true magic is in the heart that U2 poured into the songs. They were definitely rewarded.
