Liquid Lads
The Waterboys were formed by Mike Scott in 1983. Most of the band’s membership has been composed of Scottish, Irish and English musicians. Their style is a mix of rock, folk, and Celtic music. They disbanded in 1993 and reformed in 2000. They continue to release albums and perform all over the world.
The Waterboys’ early style was characterized by big soundscapes. In the late 80s, they came out with a folk-influenced sound. They then returned to rock and roll after that phase. The material is mainly written by Scott and often contains literary references. The songs also have an underlying spiritual theme running through them. They have received much critical and artistic praise but major commercial success has escaped them.
The Waterboys’ resurrection came with a new album, A Rock In The Weary Land. This had a new rock sound that was more akin to contemporary bands. This was enough of a departure from their usual style that some listeners thought it strange. By 2001, the Waterboys had a new core and were in full swing with another tour. In 2003, they released an acoustic album called Universal Hall. This was again, another sudden shift in direction. An official live album was released in 2005, and a new studio album was released last year. It looks like these boys will be doing that for years to come. With an undeniable artistic signature, they have a lot more music to make. That is good news for music lovers all over the world.
